Red Clover, or Trifolium Pratense, is that ubiquitous purplish clover that one finds in yards and fields. We harvest Red Clover in the late morning after the dew has receded and hand select only the choice blooms. We slowly air dry them in our racks to preserve their coloring and delicate constituents to deliver our customers the highest quality product available.
Red Clover has been used as a blood cleanser in folk traditions through the ages. It is believed to help stimulate the production of good blood and research has shown that it improves good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterols by increasing bile acid production. It has also been used as a woman's herb, and contemporary research has given some credence to this tradition. Red Clover contains isoflavones that are water soluable phyto-estrogens which mimic properties of the hormone estrogen and it has been shown to give relief for some female related issues such as PMS. Interestingly enough, research has also shown that Red Clover can have a limiting effect on the development of BPH in men and can quite possibly block enzymes believed to contribute to the development of prostrate cancer in men.

*Women with hormone-dependent conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and cancers of the breast, ovaries, or uterus should not take red clover due to its possible estrogenic effects. Men with prostate cancer should also avoid taking red clover, unless a doctor recommends using it.
